Career Opportunities

This program provides employment services to persons with disabilities through two components:  Job Development and Work Supports.  Referrals to the program may come from any source, however, acceptance is contingent on eligibility for either the Maine Department of Labor Division of Vocational Rehabilitation or the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adults with Cognitive and Physical Disabilities Services.
Job Development involves work with an individual to explore career interests and identification of prospective employers for participants.  Job Development works with employers and employees to establish long term employment that meets productivity requirements of a job.
Once the individual is considered stable in an employment site, they may qualify for Long Term Supports, which supports employers and employees to address any challenges that may arise well into the future.  These needs may include ongoing job coaching, assistance with scheduling or job accommodations.
Career Opportunities also operates a Summer Youth Employment Program, in collaboration with other local organizations serving youth.  Through this program, young people aged 14 to 21, with varying disabilities, are provided the opportunity to work for eight weeks during the summer.  Participants select a job that is related to their interest from available positions, or they may work with Career Opportunities staff to create one.
